JW Stoddard & Associates is a creative design firm in Austin, TX specializing in residential design.
THE PHILOSOPHY
Committed to creating a collaborative process and site-specific designs, we strive to create homes that embody three beliefs: a simple approach, practical planning, and beauty. Our goal is to create timeless spaces that merge our client’s wishes with the unique qualities of their site.
THE APPROACH
The design process is rarely straightforward, which is why listening to your needs, goals, and wishes is a key component to the design process. The strong respectful relationship we build with our clients provides the framework as we work together to develop a one-of-a-kind design that maximizes your home site’s potential.
Design, at its core, needs to make sense. We believe homes should be just that – a comfortable and practical place to live your best life, not a museum where form is more important than function. Our designs are tailored to maximize livability, with special emphasis placed on developing functional and efficient floorplans.
We work within a variety of styles by embracing the core principles of design: timeless details, balanced proportion, and unified design. Whether it’s a sprawling rustic ranch or a mid-century bungalow, all JW Stoddard & Associates designs reflect a common goal: to create a home that is beautiful, harmonious, and reflective of our collaborative vision.

WOODMONT
A renovation of a 1940s family home nestled in the quiet streets of Tarrytown, John West Stoddard, Inc. developed a design that echos traditional homes of the past with a contemporary feel. The use of large steel windows in gridded divisions creates a harmonious rhythm to the fenestration, with the coffered ceilings mirroring the geometric pattern throughout the interior.
A simple exterior of stucco, white painted brick, slate roof, copper gutters, and native Texan limestone creates a nice contrast to the beautiful heritage Live Oak tree in the front yard. A swooping roof covers the front porch and softens the front elevation, adding visual interest from the street and driveway.
